Adventures with food

So I was making mashed potatoes (from scratch) for dinner tonight. Charlie had watched me peel, cut up, boil, and mash the potatoes.

Him: Did you season the potatos yourself?
Me: /inquisitive look
Him: /looks back, waiting for an answer
Me: No dear, I grew the potatoes already seasoned with dill, garlic and butter

*sigh* Men! :-P

I love (?) how food is simultaneously harder and easier than people think it is. I mean, really, if you can read, you can cook. Granted, it might not turn out quite right, but it'll still probably be edible (my adventures with stir frys not withstanding...). It's not as though the food magically appears on the table, that there's some hocus pocus that we do in the kitchen that we just can't share. And then when someone does learn to do one recipe, they think it's a fluke, and won't cook anything else for fear of messing up the karma or something... :)
